Meaning in English : (te khalu bhavanti) There are (nava yogino) nine descriptions of Yogis where (mridu-madhya-adhimaatropaayaa) their application to means of achievement is mild, middling, or intense; (tad-yathaa) as their adoption of means is of (mriduupaayaH) with mild-energy, (madhyopaayaH) with medium energy, and (adhimaatropaayaH iti) with intense energy. (tatra) Of the three (mriduupaayaH) mildly energetic yogis are (trividhaH) three-fold — those having (mridu-samvegaH) mild level of Supreme Desirelessness, (madhya-samvegaH) middle level of Supreme Desirelessness, and (tiivra-samvegaH iti) keen level of Supreme Desirelessness. (tathaa) Similarly (madhyopaayaH) those medium energetic (tathaa) and (adhimaatro-paayaH iti) intense energetic yogis also, have a three-fold classification as above. (tatra) Of these (adhimaatropaayaanaam) Yogis having application to means of achievement is intense and —
Sutra in English : tiivrasa.mvegaanaamaasannaH.21.
Meaning in English : (tiivra-samvegaanaam) Yogis, who are having a keen level of Supreme Desirelessness, (aasannaH) their attainment of trance is nearer.
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : samaadhilaabhaH samaadhiphala.m cha bhavatiiti.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : For a Yogi who has an intense level of adoption of means, and having a keen level of Supreme Desirelessness, (samaadhilaabhaH) attainment of trance (cha) and (samaadhiphalam) fruits of trance are (bhavati iti) faster than those of the other eight categories of Yogis.
Vedic Commentary in English : All the devotees = yogis are not able to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruit salvation in the same time frame. All those adopting the means of Yoga are not even able to achieve the same level. Why is it so? This is replied by saying that there is a difference in the level of energy for the adoption of means and also, in the level of Supreme Desirelessness of the devotee. Seer Vyaasa said that on account of mild, middling, and intense energy levels of adoption of means of yoga, there are three descriptions of Yogis who intend to achieve Ultra-cognitive Trance. Here the term 'means of Yoga' means the performance of accessories of Yoga with faith etc. These three categories are to be understood as follows:-
1. Mild energy level - Those who adopt the means of Yoga with the least priority i.e., mildly = laxly are at a mild level;
2. Middling energy level - Those who adopt the means of Yoga with more priority as compared to mild-level are at middling level; and
3. Intense energy level - Those who adopt the means of Yoga with top priority and consider that this is the most important work of their life with whole-hearted devotion to it are at an intense level.
Now all the above categories are further categorized into three levels on account of the level of Supreme Desirelessness which is as follows:-
1. Mild-level - Yogi whose level of Supreme Desirelessness is least;
2. Middle-level - Yogi whose level of Supreme Desirelessness is of medium level; and
3. Keen-level - Yogi whose level of Supreme Desirelessness is top-most.
The mild, middling, or intense level of adoption of means of Yoga, by the Yogis, depends on their residual potencies, level of worship adopted in previous births, level of devotion to GOD, and yoga in the present life, and knowledge of Vedic scriptures. In the same way, the level of Supreme Desirelessness also depends on his residual potencies, knowledge of Vedic scriptures, cognizance level of Soul, and level of faith-devotion to GOD.
So, there are nine descriptions of Yogis as above i.e., 1. Mild energy and Mild level, 2. Mild energy and Middle level, 3. Mild energy and Keen Level; 4. Middling energy and Mild level, 5. Middling energy and Middle level, 6. Middling energy and Keen Level; 7. Intense energy and Mild level, 8 Intense energy and Middle level, 9. Intense energy and Keen Level.
Out of the above, the devotee with the intense energy level for the adoption of means and with an intense level of Supreme Desirelessness attains the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits in the least time. So, with the reduction in the level of adoption of means of Yoga and Supreme Desirelessness, the time to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits increases. Every previous level of Yogi from the last 9th category takes more time to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits. So, the first type of yogi with mild energy and a mild level of Supreme Desirelessness takes the highest time to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits. In other words, we can say that every next level of yogi takes less time to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits as compared to his previous level and the ninth type of yogi takes the least time to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits.
Now, what is that time? There is no indication of this in the scriptures. In fact, the worship for salvation does get complete in more than one life. In such case, if some Yogi had spent any time on this worship in the previous lives, then he will take less time for him to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits in the present life. Similarly, this worship also depends on the level of adoption of means of accessories of Yoga, devotion to true GOD, faith, knowledge obtained through Vedic scriptures, etc. Hence Seer Kapila had said in Saankhya Philosophy —
na kaalaniyamo vaamadevavat. (Saankhya Philosophy 4.20)
There is no rule of time for achieving fruits of trance; someone achieves fast, another slowly, and someone achieves in the present life, and others in the future lives, as in the case of Seer Vaamadeva. Seer Vaamadeva had achieved the fruits of trance in the present life on account of worship in the previous lives and adoption of means of Yoga with the highest intensity and keen level of Supreme Desirelessness.
So, the devotee needs to adopt the means of Yoga with intense energy and obtain a keen level of Supreme Desirelessness in order to attain the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits in the present life as soon as possible.

मृदुपायवाले — १. मृदूपाय-मृदुसंवेग; २. मृदूपाय-मध्यसंवेग; ३. मृदूपाय-तीव्रसंवेग;
मध्योपायवाले — ४. मध्योपाय-मृदुसंवेग; ५. मध्योपाय-मध्यसंवेग; ६. मध्योपाय-तीव्रसंवेग;
