Padas Name : Saadhana Paada / Means
| Sutra No : 22
In English:
Component Word : kRRitaartham prati naShTam api anaShTam tat anyasaadhaaraNatvaat.
Preface to Sutra in English : tatsvaruupam tu pararuupeNa pratilabdhaatmakam bhogaapavargaarthataayaam kRRitaayaam puruSheNa na dRRishyata iti. svaruupahaanaadasya naashaH praaptaH. na tu vinashyati. kasmaat —
Meaning in English : (tat-svaruupam) The existence of the Matter and its objects, (tu) however, (pratilabdhaatmakam) depends on the experience (pararuupeNa) by the other = the other knower i.e., the Soul, and (na drishyate) is not cognized (puruSheNa) by the Soul (bhoga-apavargaarthataayaam kritaayaam) when his purposes of enjoyment = experience and salvation are over. (iti) So, (svaruupahaanaat) by the non-cognizance as above, it would seem to imply that (asya) the Matter and its objects (naashaH praaptaH) are destroyed; (na tu) but these are not (vinashyati) destroyed. (kasmaat) Why? This question is replied —
Sutra in English : kRRitaartha.m prati naShTamapyanaShTa.m tadanyasaadhaaraNatvaat.22.
Meaning in English : (naShTam-api) Although destroyed for (kritaartham prati) the Soul who has achieved his object of salvation, (tat) the Matter and its objects, (anaShTam) are not destroyed (anya) for other Souls, (saadhaaranatvaat) being commonly available for their experience and salvation.
Vyaasa Commentary in English : kRRitaarthamekam puruSham prati dRRishyam naShTamapi naasham praaptamapyanaShTam tadanyapuruShasaadhaaraNatvaat. kushalam puruSham prati naasham praaptamapyakushalaanpuruShaanprati na kRRitaarthamiti teShaam dRRisheH karmaviShayataamaapannam labhata eva pararuupeNaatmaruupamiti. atashcha dRRigdarshanashaktyor-nityatvaadanaadiH sa.myogo vyaakhyaata iti. tathaa choktam —
dharmiNaamanaadisa.myogaaddharmamaatraaNaamapyanaadiH sa.myogaH iti.
Meaning In English : (drishyam) The knowable = Matter and its objects, (naShTam api prati) even though destroyed for i.e., (naasham praaptam api) not cognized by (ekam puruSham) one Soul (kritaartham) who has achieved his object of salvation; (tat) it = the knowable is (anaShTam) not destroyed (anya-puruSha) for other Souls, (saadhaaraNatvaat) being commonly available to all. (naasham praaptam api) Although it is destroyed (kushalam puruSham prati) for the Soul who is "adept", and does not get destroyed (na kritaartham) as not fulfilled its object of providing experience and salvation to (akushalaan puruShaan prati) other Souls who are not "adept" = not attained wisdom. (iti) This way, the Matter (aapannam) remains related to (teShaam) those Souls (drisheH karma-viShayataam) as an object of the act for attaining their objects; and (eva) as such (aatmaruupam) its form is (labhate) attained (pararuupeNa iti) by the existence of non-adept Souls. (cha) And (ataH) So, (iti vyaakhyaataH) this further explains (anaadiH) the eternal (sa.nyogaH) conjunction of (by flow) (drig-darshana-shaktyoH) the Soul (= the knower) and the Matter (= the knowable), (nityatvaat) since both are eternal = indestructible. (tathaa cha uktam) As has been said — (anaadisa.nyogaat) On account of eternal conjunction of (dharmiNaam) the "Qualities" (with the Souls), (dharma-maatraaNaam api) the characteristics = the variable objects of the "Qualities" like mind, etc. also have (anaadiH sa.nyogaH iti) eternal conjunction.
Vedic Commentary in English : The whole knowable ( = Matter and its objects) is for fulfilling the objects of experience and salvation of the knower ( = Souls). All souls are experiencing the pleasures and pains, since eternity, as per their vehicle of actions. But the Soul, who cognizes the real form of the Matter and Self by performing accessories of Yoga, in the current life-state of the human body, and cognizes GOD in the Ultra-cognitive Trance, and thereby gets freed from the bonds of Qualities in the lifetime and achieves salvation on death from this body, for that "Adept Soul" the object of Matter gets fulfilled. The Matter does not provide experiences to such Soul, after his attaining salvation, i.e., for him, the functioning of knowable ceases. Hence knowable gets destroyed for such an emancipated Soul since Matter does not have a purpose toward him.
Even in this state also the whole functioning of Matter does not end. On account of the existence of countless Souls and also on account of their variated vehicles of actions and their residual potencies, it is not possible that all the Souls get emancipated at the same time. On the other hand, the functioning of the knowable is not for a particular Soul but is commonly available to all Souls. So, it remains available for all those who are not Adept i.e., have not attained wisdom, and for them, all type of experiences remains available. And this sequence is continuing since eternity. At the beginning of every creation, all Souls get conjunct with the independent subtle body ( = made from Matter including mind, egoism, and organs), as per the fruition system of the Supreme Lord. And on getting conjunct with the knowable in this way, Soul gets various types of experiences. And this sequence of experiences continues till the Soul achieves discriminative knowledge. Only after attaining the discriminative knowledge, the conjunction of Matter and Soul ends on the death from the present body.
Hence eternal conjunction (by flow) of Soul and Matter keeps the creation cycle running. Even during the holocaust, being not having the conjunction of knower and knowable, Souls do not have any experience. In the same way, the emancipated Soul also does not have worldly experiences in the absence of conjunction with the Matter. But on the completion of the salvation period, he again gets conjunct with the knowable, and purposes of experience and salvation again start for him.
