Padas Name : Saadhana Paada / Means
| Sutra No : 45
In English:
Component Word : samaadhisiddhiH iishvarapraNidhaanaat.
Sutra in English : samaadhisiddhiriishvarapraNidhaanaat.45.
Meaning in English : (iishvara-praNidhaanaat) By the establishment of devotion to GOD i.e., surrender of all acts to GOD (samaadhi-siddhiH) yogi attains the trance.
Swami Dyanand Saraswati Gloss : By the aforesaid devotion = surrender to GOD, the yogi attains the trance easily. (Rigvedaadibhaashyabhuumikaa - on Worship)
Vyaasa Commentary in English : iishvaraarpitasarvabhaavasya samaadhisiddhiryayaa sarvamiipsitama-vitatham jaanaati deshaantare dehaantare kaalaantare cha. tato.asya praj~naa yathaabhuutam prajaanaatiiti.
Meaning In English : The yogi (iishvara-arpita-sarva-bhaavasya) who dedicates all his mental, oral and physical acts and their fruits to GOD (samaadhi-siddhiH) attains the trance. (yayaa) By this, he (jaanaati) knows (avitatham) in real form, (sarvam iipsitam) all that is desired which are either (deshaantare) in other places or (dehaantare) in other bodies, (cha) and (kaalaantare) at other time. (tataH) Then (asya) his (praj~naa) cognitive faculity (prajaanaati) shows all objects (yathaa-bhuutam iti) in the real form.
Vedic Commentary in English : In this aphorism result of "Surrender to GOD" is explained. When the devotee makes the practice of surrendering all his mental, verbal, and physical acts and their fruits, then the trance of such devotee takes place, by the compassion of GOD. In fact, the devotee who surrenders all his acts to GOD complies with the non-violence in all ways and thereby becomes able to attenuate and destroy the impurities of Nescience and its results i.e., Egoism, Attachment, Aversion, and Fear of Death, which are existing in the mind. In such a state he performs only those acts which are virtuous, as per the advice of GOD i.e., as per Vedas. Since merely by the thought of surrendering any act which is vicious = against the advice of Vedas and not wishing to have its fruits, one cannot escape from their fruits which will be in the form of pain and ignorance; as such surrender is only a show-off, whereas, on the other hand, impurities of Nescience get deep-rooted in his mind. In aphorism 2.30 Seer Vyaasa clearly said that the performance of Restraints after non-violence and Observances are a must for complete compliance with non-violence. So, without complying with the vows of truthfulness, non-theft, continence, non-avariciousness, and Observances of cleanliness, contentment, purificatory action, and study, merely by surrendering of one's acts to GOD, the ultimate target of non-violence cannot be achieved. So, for proper compliance of "surrender to GOD", compliance of all vows of Restraints and other Observances, in all ways, is desired.
So, the devotee, by the compliance of Restraints, gives away enmity towards all living beings and by complying with the Observances along with Restraints destroys the impurities of the mind, and becomes able to achieve the trance by the mental modifications which are dominated by Quality of Illumination. The trance So, achieved is known as Cognitive Trance.
In this way by the trance So, achieved, the devotee knows all the objects = subjects that are knowable in their real form. There are only three desired objects for the devotee, namely Matter, Soul, and GOD. The devotee knows these three objects in sequence i.e., knows Matter in Argumentative and Meditative Cognitive Trances; Soul = self in Egoism Cognitive Trance, and lastly cognizes GOD in the Ultra-cognitive Trance. There is no change in the form and properties of these three objects in any place, body, or time.
From 'any place' it means that these objects are the same at all places, as — all planets and other objects are made from the material cause of Matter, Souls are the same in all places and they enjoy the fruits of their vehicle of actions in various bodies, and all places are governed by the rule of GOD and exist in HIM. In the same way, the meaning of 'in all bodies' is to be understood as follows — all bodies are made from gross and subtle objects and organs; the Souls residing in those bodies are the same and are experiencing the fruits of their vehicle of actions; and GOD is the instrumental cause of such bodies and pervades all these. In the same way, the meaning of 'at all times' is to be understood as follows — the universe was created from Matter, the material cause, in the previous creations, in the present creation also its material cause is Matter and in the coming creations also, Matter will be the material cause; in the previous creations the Soul used to get various life-states as per their vehicle of actions, in the present creations they are in the life-cycle on account of their vehicle of actions and in the coming creations the same system will continue; and in the previous creations, GOD was the instrumental cause of this universe and fruit-giver for the Souls, in the present creation HE alone is the instrumental cause of this universe and is the fruit-provider to the souls, and HE will be in the same role in the future creations also. It means the properties, characteristics, and form of the three eternal objects remain unchanged at all places, in all bodies and at all times.
On attaining the trance-faculty, he knows this verbal knowledge in the real form through logical thinking, meditation, and cognizance, and his all doubts cease to exist.
