Sutra in English : shrutaanumaanapraj~naabhyaamanyaviShayaa visheShaarthatvaat.49.
Meaning in English : Proficient Mental cognition, (visheShaarthatvaat) by showing the real form of an object, (shruta-anumaana-praj~naabhyaam) as compared to verbal cognition and inferential cognition, (anyaviShayaa) has a different subject.

Ancient seer Meaning in English : (shrutam) Verbal cognition is (aagamavij~naanam) knowledge received from others, vedas, and/or other literature, and (tat) that (saamaanya-viShayam) gives the general properties of the object = subject. (hi) Certainly (na shakyaH) it is not possible (abhidhaatum) to describe (visheShaH) the particular properties of the object (aagamena) by words. (kasmaat) Why it is not possible? (hi) Since (na) there is no (krita-sa~NketaH) conventional denotation (visheSheNa) of the particular properties of objects (shabda iti) in words.
(tathaa) Similarly (anumaanam) the inferential cognition (saamaanya-viShayam eva) also, gives the general properties of the subject = object. (yatra praaptiH) Wherever there is an approach (tatra gatiH) there is motion, and (yatra apraaptiH) wherever there is no approach (tatra na gatiH) there is no existence of motion, (iti uktam) this principle is explained in aphorism 1.7. (cha) Further (anumaanena) inferential cognition (upasa.nhaaraH) arrives at conclusions (saamaanyena) by the general properties of the object/subject. (tasmaat) Therefore (na asti) there are no (kashchit visheShaH) particular properties of object = subject, (shruta-anumaana-viShayaH iti) which become base for cognition in induction and verbal cognition.
(cha) And by (asya) this (loka-pratyakSheNa) ordinary perception, (grahaNam) cognition of (suukShma-vyavahita-viprakriShTasya vastunaH) subtle, distant and intercepted objects (na asti) is not possible. (cha) And (apraamaaNakasya) for want of perception (asya visheShasya) the particular properties of such objects, (abhaavaH na asti iti) their existence cannot be denied. As (nirgraahya) cognition of (bhuuta-suukShma-gato vaa puruSha-gato vaa) particular properties of subtle elements = objects and soul and/or GOD is possible by (samaadhi-praj~naa eva) trance consciousness only, so, (sa) that cognition (bhavati) is (visheShaH) real cognition. (tasmaat) Hence (saa) this (praj~naa) proficient mental cognition (visheShaarthatvaat) by cognizing the particular properties of the objects, becoming base for cognition (anyavishayaa) is different from (shrutaanumaana-praj~naabhyaam iti) verbal and inferential cognition.
Vedic Commentary in English : Essential cognition, which shows the real form of the object, generated on account of internal perception from the proficiency of Ultra-meditative Cognitive Trance, is entirely different from verbal cognition and inferential cognition.
From verbal cognition, the general properties of the object are known. Specific properties of the object could not be described by it, since words have no such capability which can give the particular properties of the object. Vedas and Vedic literature come under the category of testimony. The knowledge given in the Vedas is beyond any doubts or suspicion, but till it is not cognized through the process of 'shravaNa chatuShThaya' = Four-steps Realisation method, (as explained in aphorism 1.41), the hearer = reader gets the general properties of the objects = subjects, their particular = specific properties are not known. Let us take an example — when we say 'fire burns', the hearer of these words knows that burning takes place by fire. But by hearing these words no one gets burnt. He will get the pain of burning only when he actually come into contact with the fire. Similarly, it should be known with regard to other subjects = objects.
In the same way, inferential cognition is to be known. In the explanation of aphorism 1.7 Seer Vyaasa clearly said that it cognizes chiefly the generic qualities = properties of the object. So, by inference, one knows the general properties of the object. Hence one does not get the cognizance of particular = specific properties of the object by verbal and inferential cognitions.
External organs are able to cognize the available gross objects i.e., cow, sun, earth, air, etc. On the other hand, the objects which are subtle, hidden = intercepted, or distant, cannot be cognized by the external organs. Merely on account of non-cognizance by external organs, the existence of such subtle, hidden, or distant objects cannot be denied. Seer Vyaasa said that the Matter, its products, its properties, form, and the properties of the Soul and GOD can be cognized internally by trance-cognition. Such cognition is about the true form = nature and properties of the objects.
Seer Kapila had also, accepted the internal cognizance of subtle, hidden, and distant objects in his Saankhya Philosophy (aphorism 1.91); otherwise, cognizance of GOD would not have been possible which would have led to the non-existence of GOD itself.
So, trance-cognition = essential cognition is different from verbal and inferential cognition, which is not only able to cognize the gross, subtle, hidden, and distant objects but also, helps to cognize the GOD. For these reasons this essential cognition = trance-cognition is superior and one should perform hard to achieve it. Otherwise in the absence of trance-cognition devotee will remain mingled in the verbal knowledge of the objects and remain far away from his ultimate goal of life; such devotee should treat the cognizance of Soul and GOD as a dream for himself.
