Component Word : tatra dhyaanajam anaashayam.
Sutra in English : tatra dhyaanajamanaashayam.6.
Meaning in English : (tatra) Out of the five created mental levels (dhyaanajam) mental level created by meditation is (anaashayam) free from vehicles = residual potencies.
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : pa~nchavidha.m nirmaaNachitta.m janmauShadhimantratapaH-samaadhijaaH siddhaya iti. tatra yadeva dhyaanaja.m chitta.m tadevaanaashayam. tasyaiva naastyaashayo raagaadipravRRittiH. naataH puNyapaapaabhisambandhaH kShiiNakleshatvaadyogina iti. itareShaa.m tu vidyate karmaashayaH.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : (nirmaaNa-chittam) Created mental level is (pa~ncha-vidham) fivefold since (hanma-aushadhi-mantra-tapaH-samaadhijaaH siddhayaH iti) attainments are by birth, medicines, incantation, purificatory action, and trance. (tatra) Out of the five levels of mind, the created (yat eva chittam) mental-level, which is (dhyaanajam) created by Trance, (tat eva) that alone is (anaashayam) free from vehicles. (tasya eva) In this mind (created by trance) alone, (na asti) there are no (aashayaH) vehicles (raagaadi-pravrittiH) tending towards attachment, aversion, etc. Since (yoginaH kShiiNa-kleshatvaat) the afflictions of the yogi ceased to exist, (ataH) therefore, (na) he does not come (puNya-paapa-abhi-sambandhaH iti) into relation with virtue and vice. (itareShaam) In the mental levels created in other four ways, (tu) however, (karmaashayaH) vehicle of actions (vidyate) exist.
Vedic Commentary in English : Yogi is capable of creating five types of mental levels i.e., creating five types of knowledge levels of the mind. This fact is affirmed by Seer Vyaasa in the commentary on this aphorism. It means that as the yogi is able to create superior levels of the physical body by life-state, medicines, incantation, purificatory action, and trance, in the same way, he is also able to create different levels of knowledge of the mind.
Out of the five levels of mind, as above, the mental level created by trance is free from the potencies of attachment, etc. There is always an accumulation of potencies, of virtue-vice-mixed-up acts, and on account of the experience of fruition of those acts, in the mind of a person; and on account of these accumulated residual potencies, Soul remains involved in the life-cycle. Seer Patanjali said that the yogi is able to cease the acts and afflictions by 'cloud-of-virtue' trance (Ref - tataH klesha-karma-nivrittiH - 4.30), is able to destroy those potencies by Ultra-cognitive Trance, and non-virtuous and non-vicious acts performed in the present life, by the yogi, do not become a cause of bondage for him. So, when a yogi destroys the afflictions, then in the absence of afflictions in the mind, potencies are not generated by his acts since these are devoid of virtue and vice. It means that on the destruction of the affliction of nescience in the mind of a yogi, there is no tendency towards attachment and aversion, he does not remain related to virtue and vice, hence his mind is said as free from vehicles = potencies. This is said as the highest superior state of mind since in this state mind exists as pure as the Soul (Ref - tadevabhuutam chittam-avasitaadhikaaram-aatmakalpena vyavatiShThate pralayam vaa gachchhati-iti - Vyaasa commentary on 1.5).
On the other hand, in the other mental levels of mind, since afflictions do not get destroyed, persons have a tendency towards the defects of attachment and aversion, etc., one accumulates potencies by performing virtuous-vicious-mixed-up acts. So, all other four types of mental levels are with residual potencies.
