Component Word : tat ChidreShu pratyayaantaraaNiH sa.mskaarebhyaH.
Sutra in English : tachChidreShu pratyayaantaraaNi sa.mskaarebhyaH.27.
Meaning in English : (chhidreShu) In the intervals (tat) of the flow of discriminative knowledge, (pratyaya-antaraaNi) other knowledge = the knowledge of worldly affairs appears (sa.nskaarebhyaH) on account of residual potencies.
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : pratyayavivekanimnasya sattvapuruShaanyataakhyaatimaatra-pravaahaarohiNashchittasya tachChidreShu pratyayaantaraaNyasmiiti vaa mameti vaa jaanaamiiti vaa na jaanaamiiti vaa. kutaHa kShiiyamaaNabiijebhyaH puurvasa.mskaarebhya iti.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : (chittasya) In the mind (pratyaya-viveka-nimnasya) inclining towards the notion of the discriminative knowledge i.e., (sattva-puruSha-anyataa-khyaatimaatra-pravaahiNaH) flowing in the stream of distinctive knowledge of the Soul and mind, (pratyaya-antaraaNi) other knowledge appears (chhidreShu) in the intervals (tat) of that knowledge stream, as (asmi iti) "I am", (vaa) or (mama iti) "This is mine" (vaa) or (jaanaami iti) "I know" (vaa) or (na jaanaami iti vaa) "I do not know" etc.
(kutaH) How does it so, happen? These other notions appear because (puurva-sa.nskaarebhyaH) of the existence of previous residual potencies (kShiiya-maaNa-biijebhyaH iti) whose seeds had been weakened and/or attenuated.
Vedic Commentary in English : In the Egoism Cognitive Trance, when the mind gets colored with the conscious Soul, the yogi gets the cognizance of an unchangeable and conscious Soul that is totally opposite in properties from the inanimate and changeable mind; and in this way by the cognizance of discriminative knowledge of Soul and mind by the yogi his mind which was flowing on the path of nescience towards the worldly affairs, now the same mind starts flowing towards the salvation on the path of discriminative knowledge. In this way on the rise of modifications of discriminative knowledge in the mind of a yogi, the same type of new-new residual potencies gets generated and such stream of such modifications continues.
With regard to the flow of similar subjects, Seer Vyaasa had written in aphorism 3.12 — "In the mind, which is in the state of trance modification, the former cognitive act subsides, and after that similar cognitive act rises." This state of mind is called a one-pointed modification. In this way by subsiding and rising similar knowledge in the mind, the flow of discriminative knowledge continues. This is called one-pointedness of mind with regard to discriminative knowledge. But this flow of discriminative knowledge is not the state of "constant discrimination", on account of which yogi achieves Cloud-of-Virtue Trance (Ref - Yoga 4.29). And also, the yogi has not been released from the afflictions and acts (Ref - yoga 4.30), as this state is achieved after Cloud-of-Virtue Trance.
Till now in the mind of this yogi, afflictions are existing even though attenuated; his virtue-vice-mixed-up acts and their potencies are existing in the mind. In this mind, potencies accumulated in various births since eternity are variegated. In such a state in intervals of the flow of discriminative knowledge, other knowledge(s) = knowledge of worldly affairs, which is totally opposite to the discriminative knowledge, also gets manifested in the mind on account of the existence of the above type of potencies. The nature of such types of knowledge is described as follows: —
1. "I am" i.e., I am of such type of body, having such name. This position takes place on account of nescience related to the body, organs, etc.;
2. "This is mine" i.e., I am the owner of such-such objects, such persons are part of my family, my friends, my relatives, etc. such objects, wealth, minerals, animals, etc. are part of my property. This position shows the dominance of Nescience and Attachment;
3. "I know" i.e., I have the knowledge of these subjects, my knowledge of such subjects is superior to others, etc.; and
4. "I do not know" i.e., I do not know these subjects, have no knowledge or inferior knowledge of these subjects as compared to others. In both of these situations, one attributes the knowledge of the material world and objects (present in the mind) to the Soul. Both these positions show the dominance of afflictions of Nescience and Egoism.
In this way by the appearance of worldly knowledge in the mind of a yogi, the flow of discriminative knowledge of mind and Soul gets disturbed and discontinues. Such types of disturbances do take place for the yogi in such a state, which becomes a hindrance to achieving "constant discrimination". So, the yogi has to remain very cautious in this regard. The means for the removal of these obstructions are explained in the next aphorism.

१. “ मैं हूँ ” अर्थात् मैं इस प्रकार के शरीर वाला, अमुक नाम वाला पुरुष हूँ। यह स्थिति मुख्यता शरीर, इन्द्रिय विषयक मिथ्याज्ञान के कारण होती है;
२. “ मेरा हैं ” अर्थात् मैं अमुक-अमुक पदार्थों का स्वामी हूँ, अमुक-अमुक व्यक्ति मेरा परिवार, मेरे मित्र, मेरे सम्बन्धी - पुत्रादि हैं, अमुक-अमुक मेरे सेवक हैं, अमुक-अमुक धन-पदार्थ एवं पशु आदि मेरी सम्पत्ति है — मेरे अधिकार में हैं। यह स्थिति मुख्यतया अविद्या और राग क्लेश की प्रधानता को दर्शाती है;
