Sutra in English : tadaa sarvaavaraNamalaapetasya j~naanasyaa.a.anantyaajj~neyamalpam.31.
Meaning in English : (tadaa) On cessation of afflictions and actions, for the yogi, (sarva-aavaraNa-mala-apetasya) who is free from all the impurities which cover the pure form of the mind, (j~neyam) the knowable objects = subjects (alpam) remain very little (j~naanasya-aanantyaat) on account of knowledge becoming excessive.

Ancient seer Meaning in English : (j~naanasya) The knowledge of (vimuktasya) yogi, who is free from (sarvaiH) all (klesha-karma-aavaraNaih) the afflictions and actions, (bhavati) become (aanantyam) excessive. At the time of outgoing state (anantam j~naana-sattvam) the mind with the capability of infinite Illumination (aavarakeNa tamasaa-abhibhuutam) being over-powered by the Inertia Quality which covers the other i.e., (aavritam) being covered by the veils of Inertia, and (pravarttitam) influenced (rajasaa) by Activity Quality, so, (udghaaTitam) even being capable to grasp the object, (bhavati grahaNa-samartham) it is capable to grasp (kvachit eva) only some knowable objects.
On the other hand (tatra) during the state of Cloud-of-Virtue trance (yadaa) when the mind (bhavati) becomes (apagatam) free (sarvaiH aavaraNamalaiH) from all the impurities (tadaa) then (asya) knowledge of this yogi (bhavati) becomes (aanantyam) excessive. And (j~naanasya aanantyaat) on attaining the excessive knowledge, (j~neyam) the knowable objects (alpam sampadyate) remain very little, (yathaa) as (khadyotaH) the shining insect (aakaashe) in the sky.
(yatra) On this (= the principle that the free yogi is jiivana-mukta i.e., does not go in the life-cycle again) (idam uktam) it has been said — (andhaH) the blind man (avidhyat) pierced (maNim) the pearl; (ana~NguliH) the fingerless (tam aavayat) put that pearl in a garland, (agriivaH) the neck-less (tam pratyamu~nchat) wore that garland of pearls and (ajihvaH) the tongue-less person (tam abhyapuujayat iti) has praised that person. So, as these works are impossible, it is also impossible for a free yogi to take birth again.
Vedic Commentary in English : By the proper practice of Cloud-of-virtue trance, the afflictions present in the mind of the yogi get removed. On removal of these afflictions, his future virtuous-vicious-mixed-up acts also cease. In this way, his acts are desireless i.e., devoid of virtue and vice, which continues till he lives in the present body.
In this state on account of the pure flow of discriminative knowledge, his knowledge becomes excessive in the mind. Here the word "ananta" in Sanskrit is used for "excessive" not for "infinite" since whatever may be the level of knowledge of the Soul, will be limited in comparison to GOD.
On the other hand, before this state i.e., when the modifications of the mind were outgoing, the mind of a yogi is overpowered by the Quality of Inertia or influenced by the Quality of Activity, then it is capable of grasping only some knowable objects. On account of the grasping capability of the mind, one is able to grasp some objects from time to time. One whose mind is less affected by the Quality of Inertia, is able to grasp more objects as compared to one whose mind is fully overpowered by the Quality of Inertia. So, during this period, one is not capable of grasping most objects. By regular practice, when a devotee over-powers the Qualities of Inertia and Activity by the dominance of Quality of Illumination, his mind becomes capable of grasping more and more knowable objects, and when the Qualities of Inertia and Activity get suppressed by the Quality of Illumination, then the capability of grasping of knowable objects increases utmost.
During the state of Cloud-of-virtue trance, where the afflictions and desirous acts cease, and with the discriminative knowledge of Mind and Soul, the capability of the mind for grasping the objects is fully developed, the excessiveness of knowledge is accepted in the mind of the yogi. For such a yogi, the knowable objects remain very little, as the shining insects are very little in the sky.
In this aphorism, by the mention of "little knowable objects" even after the Cloud-of-virtue trance, the conception of those who believe that Cloud-of-virtue trance is Ultra-cognitive is proved as wrong. See in the Brihadaaranyaka UpaniShada, Seer Yaajvalkya had advised his wife Maitreyee as follows —
aatma vaa are draShTavyaH shrotavyo mantavyo nididhyaasitavyo maitreyaatmano vaa are darshanena shravaNena matyaa viGYaanenedam sarvam viditam. 2.4.5.
i.e., GOD is only worth seeing, worth listening to, worth thinking about, worth meditating. By cognizance, listening, meditation, and knowledge of GOD, everything else is known. It means nothing remains knowable.
But by the statement of little knowable objects even after the Cloud-of-virtue trance, cognizance of GOD cannot be accepted to be taken place in this trance. So, this is the highest state of Egoism Cognitive Trance, after this by having the desirelessness from the Qualities of Illumination, etc., Ultra-cognitive Trance is achieved, where the conscious Soul cognizes the supreme conscious GOD.
For the yogi, whose afflictions and desirous acts cease, it is said that he does not go in the life-cycle again as it is impossible for a blind man to pierce a pearl, for a fingerless person to put those pierced pearls in a garland, for a neck-less person to wore that garland of pearls, and for a tongue-less to praise the person who wore that garland. As these works cannot be done, so, the person, who becomes free from the bonds of life, does not take birth again.
But even in this state yogi has to take caution that he should continue the practice of Cloud-of-virtue trance; maintain the state of "constant discrimination" (since - "vivekakhyaatiH-aviplavaa haanopaayaH" 2.26); keep on practicing the solid tool of "devotion to GOD" throughout his life (Ref - "Ishvara-praNidhaanat vaa". 1.23); keep the practice of meditating one object = GOD (Ref - "tat-pratiShedhaartham-ek-tatvaabhyaasaH". 1.32); put efforts for Supreme Desirelessness (Ref - "tiivra-samvegaanaamaasannaH". 1.21); for the state of restraint of all modifications, practice for the state where residual potencies only remain; keep the practice of cognizance of GOD in the Ultra-cognitive Trance; otherwise, defects can reappear.
By adopting these means, the yogi becomes able to achieve salvation after the departure from his current body.
